Howe Sound Brew Pub One O'Clockish

So we're on for the Howe Sound Brew Pub after. I was able to trade away my evening shift. We will begin assembling as the 22km runners finish. There will be draw prizes but we will within reason wait for the slower 22km runners as well. If you do the 10km please head to the Brennan Rec Centre for a swim and a hot tub or something especially if you are faster. Most people should be there by roughly 1:00 I believe but it might be a bit later. We'll just take is as it develops to use common sense depending on who shows up. It seems many are waiting until the last minute to register depending on weather ect... Hope to see you there. Post a comment if you need a ride. I will take as many as I can up and if some need to carpool to Brennan Rec Centre then I can take a load up and come back for one or two loads more. Also if anyone is having trouble getting a hold of rental snowshoes or anything let me know. Glad to know I can relax after with a burger and a beer instead of rushing back to work!

Squamish Scrambler

I registered for this event back in December and asked about car pooling.  I did not hear back from anyone and have since made other plans for this weekend.  I hope you do have a great snowshoe trip and I look forward to seeing you on another occasion.  Stay safe out there!Smile

Carpooling will be arranged at the Rec Centre

Hi Jennifer,

We shall miss you.  We usually arrange car pooling at the meeting point in Squamish (I am sorry, but I thought I had emailed you to that regard...sorry if I missed that).  Anyway, our car is full, otherwise I would have offered.

BTW, I know that the demand for carpooling is great and it is something that the Club wants to promote and make easier. Until the time that we have an easy way to allow you to arrange, the Steering Committee suggested to post a forum topic for carpooling for each event where rides can be offered and shared.

Deep Cove and Deakin Rent As Well

Hey all, AFTER you check out NSA for the CHEAPEST rentals on the shore, you can also hit up Bob Putnam at Deep Cove Canoe and Kayak, and Deakin Equipment. Agree with Ryan on this one, there are enough rentals to be found that it should be on the individual this year.

Happy 'shoeing', hope the sun shines nice and bright while you're all up there!

Snowshoe Rentals

Hey Everyone: I think the best option for this year is to have everyone who needs rent their own snowshoes. Contact me if this poses a difficulty for you and I will try my best to accommodate you. North Shore Athletics has several pairs available for rent for $10 for the day, contact them regarding those first. There are also some through the Yeti I will see if we can get a hold of. There is no North Shore Athletics in Squamish anymore so we don't have our rental staging grounds and I don't want to chance leaving someone elses snowshoes in my car. Ryan

Road Conditions

Hey all, sorry I can't make it out this year, but very happy the tradition will live on!

I have not made it up that way yet this season but have spoken with numerous friends who frequent the area. Apparently there is a new guy with the 'plowing contract' and the road has never looked so good in winter before!

Having said that, you should approach this area with at least chains and/or a 4x4 AND have no issue or question about parking a few km shy of the upper lot if the conditions are not ideal.

Hope it goes off without a hitch, maybe next year for me!

Car Pool

I am registered for this event AND I too would need to car pool with someone as I do not have chains or 4WD.  I am coming from South Surrey. I could meet at St. David's (Taylor Way) or Squamish or the Rec Centre - whatever works.  I plan (hope) to do the 22km distance. Thanks in advance for your help.  Smile

a ride?

I'd love to do the Scrambler but my little 'put put' would never make it in the snow. If I can snag a 4WD ride with you I'd be happy to share gas and moral support. And by gas I mean the kind for your car. And by moral support I mean mostly moral but definitely encouragement. Craig

;-)

If we go, you got a ride.  We do have chains, but if I recall we broke them during the last time we were trying to get up there...I better fix them.

Despite the 4 wheel drive, chains are what gets us up there.

chains / winter tires... (don't ask me!)

Hey Sibylle, do you have winter tires on your 4WD? My husband (who is a bit of a car fanatic, though not so much a snowshoeing fanatic) is convinced that our car, with winter tires, shall ne'er need chains (and that in fact, the winter tire manufacturer recommends against them... I guess they believe their tires are just that good??). Now, I have no idea, but what do you think? In any event - I'm interested in carpooling to Brennan Rec Centre from the Vancouver area anyway, no matter what happens after that point... I'd be pretty proud of our small-but-brave car if it could get in there, she is fairly amazing :)

I am not the car expert or

I am not the car expert or tire expert or chain expert...I just know that that road is gnarly. One year we had cars sliding all over the place and one person.  Cars without chains usually end up parking at the lower parking lot, ca 2km before the trailhead.  Thing is that once you are passed the lower parking lot there are not many (1) opportunities to turn around...

ok then ...

I'll keep up my 8 day/week snowshoe training ... thanks Sibylle.

Is anybody planning to do this?

I'd be up for this, if anyone else is! I have a 4wd vehicle, although it's not tall so it doesn't have a tonne of clearance... anyone?
Sibylle's picture

We are likely going up,

We are likely going up, weather/road permitting.  We also do have a 4 wheel drive, but so far chains were needed every single year (possible exception was last year - can't remember the report).  Clearance never has been the issue ;-)  Check the agenda, I believe we are meeting at the Brennan Rec Centre to figure out car pooling.
