Flash-prep run for Orcas Island 50km

27 Dec 2008 08:30
27 Dec 2008 13:30
Location:
End of Lynne Valley Road, by entrance to Lynn Headwaters, by pipe bridge. I think there' a coffee shop there too. Called something like End of the Line....we'll be parking along the road.
We're getting ready for our first race of the year, Orcas Island 50km on Feb 7th, 2009 :)  We've been slacking a bit, and need to step it up to be ready in time.  Unfortunatly, the snow/weather will make our efforts a bit harder today! We plan to be out there for 4-5 hrs. Actual mileage we're not concerned with.

Course:

-Baden Powell through Lynn Canyon over Pipe Bridge to Fishermans

-Left on Fisherman's to Bridle Path via Hyannis

-Right on Bridle Path via Hyannis

-Right onto Bridle Path

-take this all the way to Old Buck, and then left up old buck to Vancouver Picnic Area

-Down neds, bottletop and such until Fisherman's

-Right on Fisherman's to Circuit 8 trail back to Gazebo

Depending on how long that takes, we'll do some of it again. We're going to stick together as it'll be a rather slow run anyhow, so come on out :)  Cheers! Bill and Jess.

run last sat

hmmm...well, we were never planning on running a full 50km on sat, but I'm glad you guys got a good run in!! :)  Seeing as we had no commitments to anyone to show up, we had a late start at 1130am (feeling pretty good considering we'd be running since "0830"), ran on a very snowy varley trail and lynne headwaters road to LSCR (the pipe bridge was closed), and then hit more than knee high snow on the trail down to fisherman's, so we turned around, ran out of LSCR via the road, across the highway, up mountain highway and then right onto lynne valley road back to the car and called it a day ;)  took just over 2 hrs. we sure felt powerful after sloggin through the snow for almost an hour, but it was fun. Hopefully, trails will clear a bit for next week, otherwise... *gasp* we might have to run on the road!!!!

Orcas prep

We did it!! But we did it in Kelowna where we knew we had a marked trail without toooooo too much snow. We slogged around the river on a beautiful flat 15k loop. Kelownaites had even decoraterd some of the evergreen trees on the trail. It was glorious. Dark gray sky tons of the white stuff even clean portapotties, Brandy beans in the car and we're good. 3 loops and a little bit more..50k in 5:37ish!!! We missed ya!!

Orcas prep

Well it's snowing again. Barry and I Lorie were once again coming down to join you fine people for a 50k at least run....We don't drive all that way for less then 6 to 8 hours of running. You have to run longer then you drive!!!!! This time I think we would be driving for 10 hours or parked in a snow bank at the side of the road so it's a lonely run in Vernon for us. We will put in 50k and email our lonely time to you. We have way more snow here so it will be a white slog for us. Enjoy your wet slushy but warmer run. Happy Holidays to all Jingel trails.....Lorie

Ultra option

Jess, I'm just curious what course you will be coming up with. I was talking to Karl yesterday and we might be up for a double loop, you know we don't get out much for less than 50k. See you in Bellingham.

course

we were thinking of parking at Jaycee House and combining the Dirty Duo course and mike and melissa's fun run, by going up to the vancouver picnic area via old buck for a bit of extra climbing, and then down neds, bottle top and such, and then come up figure 8 instead of homestead. not sure how long that is, but may need to extend it by looping through lynn canyon again and going over the pipe bridge and back on fisherman's again instead of back to the car right away. We'd also thought about parking at LSCR and do part of the course to the east, and then part of the course to the west so we'd have somewhere to come back to (and in your case loop through several times in order to run 50km or more), and add more if we need to.
