FLASH - Grouse - Bridal - Old Buck Return via BP

5 Jul 2008 12:00
5 Jul 2008 19:00
A Stormy training run - hence the 12:00 noon start - with some good running and some good hills. We will meet at Grouse Mountain shortly before 12:00 noon on Saturday July 5, 2008 and head out to Lynn Headwaters on the BP. From the Headwaters cross the bridge towards Rice Lake and follow the Demonstration Forrest Road to the Circuit 8 cut off; head down the trail towards Fisherman and run all the way to Twin Bridges. Cross Twin Bridges and follow the road to the SECOND intersection to the left up to BRIADAL trail; follow Bridal until the main intersection and turn RIGHT towards Old Buck (almost all the way down to Mt. Seymour Road); from there (you will be stopped by gates) follow Old Buck ALL the way UP (reverse Kneeknacker) until you hit BP and follow the trail down Mt. Seymour Grind. Go to the bottom and then turn right (I think) up to Mystery Creek Bridge; cross the Bridge and down the trail back to Twin Bridges; head up the main road/trail to the Gazebo over the Horsebridge; follow Varley Trail and back onto BP towards Grouse. I did the Bridal section last Saturday and it was lots of fun! I took it real easy and it took just over three hours; adding the Grouse Loop makes it a bit longer and I guesstimate that it will take 6 to 7 hours. Take a big bladder as there is only water at Mountain Highway and the Gazebo. Grouse - Bridal etc.

Just before noon I arrived at Grouse - just in time for the pouring rain....A few minutes later Karl Jensen showed up. He explained that we usually give the fools an extra five minutes to start. So we waited a few more minutes and no one else showed up we started. We had a fun run and it was fabulous to have some company on one of my long training runs! Karl had a dinner to go to so left at the intersection of PB and Hyannis shortly after four hours and I kept going back to Grouse and arrived at 6:20 p.m. - so 6 hours and 15min. By that time the rain had stopped and the sun was out. I am sorry we missed Gilles and Chad - there is always next time - stay tuned :)

Sounds like fun

But I'm going to Squamish instead, I've done the 12pm start in the heat for the last two weeks. My primary mission: to figure out where I screwed up after 7 stitches. My secondary mission: to find Dave from WA's Toyota key, I have a pretty good idea where it is. And will be the navigation portion of my long run. Hope you have a wonderful time!

Join in

Sylvie, I'm thinking of joining you. Chad and I are doing the first half of Kneeknacker which we should be finished by 11:30 so timing is perfect. I'll see how I feel and I'm counting on a slow pace.

Sorry we missed you

Hey Gilles - sorry we missed you; how was your run?

The Kneeknacker is going to be tough

Harder than when we did the V100. We got to Cleveland Dam too late. I got there at 12:05 and Chad came almost an hour later. Long story but Chad and I missed each other at some important junction and he backtrack thinking I had been eaten by a bear. Anyway you got much better weather that we did. Hope to see you soon.

Better Weather???

Not sure about the better weather Gilles, but the company on the trail was certainly better than what I'm used to. Too bad we couldn't connect. Sylvie and I had a very pleasant run in spite of the rain. Thanks Sylvie. The five minute rule was implemented because some of the Fools are too old and slow to get to the start in time. KKNSTR will certainly be interesting. Not likely to see any records broken. The Year of the Snow II.

The year of the snow and mud.

Sylvie is very good running company, on of the best out there. Too bad she doesn't come out more often./

Company

Hey you two - well, thank you. You're not doing too bad yourselves. Is that why you always want me to go off trail, Gilles??? Anyway, we can get tired of each other during Stormy.... :)
