January 2010 Yours Truly 50k with St. Louis Ultrarunner's Group

January 31st afforded some St. Louis Ultrarunner's Group friends an opportunity to gather for the Yours Truly 50k in Greensfelder Park near Eureka, MO. Not all runner's chose to run a full 50k, but everyone turned out a great effort for the day.

An inch or two of snow covered the frozen ground. Horse tracks & lots of rocks/roots, coupled with crusty & frozen mud made for slow going at times. The group just plugged along and covered the 31 mile course in about 6hrs 46mins. Altimeter reading came back that we had climbed nearly 5,000ft and descended about the same amount. A tough run in those conditions! And who knew that there was that much elevation change in the "flat lands" of Missouri???

At least we didn't have to worry about overheating - it was a balmy 9 degrees Farenheit at the 7am start!

Most of you are probably familiar with the Yours Truly 50k website, but for those that may not be, try this link:

The Yours Truly 50k is a 50k you can run anywhere you like and post your results on the link above. It's a blast! There is another YT50k date in 2010, which is February 28th. The S.L.U.G.'s are already planning a tentative run for that date as well - hope to see results from some of you fellow CFA'ers out there too...

I think it used to be snow...

It was more like a frozen crust in the early hours, but "warmed up" to 35 degrees F mid-day :)
