April Fools Bag Bowen

April 1st is the first day of the North Shore Bagger Challenge.  It's also April Fools day.

I trust Environment Canada. So 'round about 11:00 last night when Conroy calls me to see if I am into earning some first bagging bragging rights, I consulted the most reliable weather website I know of before opting-in. I truly didn't suspect that Environment Canada would say it was going to be warm and sunny if it wasn't going to be warm and sunny.

Thunder and Lightning snowshoe

Could not have had a better day and even the low turnout could not dampen our spirits. The rebel I am, I broke one Club Fat Ass rule. Yes I marked the trail, but the sweep removed al the flagging, so nothing was left behind. We had only one runner attempting the 23km, but unfortunately Ward had to pull out early, due to injury, hope you are ok. The rest of us did 13 km, Rob and Kandra (hope I spelled your name right) got there late but managed to hook up with us, completing about 10km. Thanks for the pics  Kandra.

BAGGER CHALLENGE 2011

I am a wanderer and mountain-climber, said he to his heart, I love not the plains, and it seemeth I cannot long sit still.

Sunshine Coast Trail shelters & huts

Over the last year and a half the Powell River Parks and Wilderness Society (PR PAWS) has built four large shelters and a hut in strategic locations along the Sunshine Coast Trail (SCT). Our plans call for two more shelters and another hut to be built this year and next. Together with some B&Bs they will provide shelter/accommodation every 10 to 20 km so hikers don't have to carry a tent.

Name Change for the "Monty".

I have been thinking about this for some time now and this is what I am proposing.

The 1/2 Monty should in future be called. "The Monty". and the 50K (double distance) should remain as the "Full Monty".

This will also be the first year that I will offer a 12K out and back on Joclyn hill, which should be refered to as the " Joclyn Jaunt".The perfect run for active support crew members...

All on the same trails, out and back.

I'm excited?

Will it happen?

I think so.

Spaghetti, anyone? East Sooke Regional Park, where the sun is always shining...

...except when it's not :)

But seriously folks, it IS sunnier in Victoria! And windier, and we have bigger waves. And our trails are really cool! Come find out at this year's Spaghetti Trees run Saturday April 2, 2011. Also, our beer is better. You can find out more about that after the run...

Pure Foolishness 50K - Results

A very light snowfall greeted a fairly large group at the 8 AM start.  Temperatures were below freezing, but warmed up a bit during the day.  The consensus seemed the be that the conditions were perfect.  Very little ice was encountered along the course and the snow accumulation during the day did not significantly impact most participants.  Only one casualty was reported:  Liza, who started at Lynn Canyon, badly twisted her ankle and had to stop at Deep Cove.
