Spaghetti, anyone? East Sooke Regional Park, where the sun is always shining...

...except when it's not :)

But seriously folks, it IS sunnier in Victoria! And windier, and we have bigger waves. And our trails are really cool! Come find out at this year's Spaghetti Trees run Saturday April 2, 2011. Also, our beer is better. You can find out more about that after the run...

New start time (noon) means people can get home to Vancouver without taking the last ferry of the day: a wonderful day-trip to Victoria, or plan on spending a night or two & making a weekend of it. ~13km or ~20km options, and for you crazy bikers, feel free to ride 30-65km along the Galloping Goose trail to the start. After-party at a 117-year-old pub that serves clam chowder in a sourdough bowl, yum yum.

Optional add-on for people staying 'til Sunday: teagirl will take you on a paddleboarding tour of the Inner Harbour (see the parliament buildings from a whole new viewpoint while avoiding the seaplanes... paddle up to Red Fish Blue Fish for the yummiest fish tacos ever; then over to the Flying Otter for a beer caesar (sounds weird but it's so good!!).

Check out last year's results for videos & whatnot, then register for your own super-great Spaghetti Trees experience! Spaghetti Trees event page

See you there!

local beer...

jackson, is coffee stout the perfect running fuel? seems to me it would be - energizing, plus carbs, plus that good feeling you get from supporting a local brewer. good thing Philips Brewing has it on tap right now, maybe it will still be here for Spaghetti Trees!

Coffee Stout

Without a doubt, stout is a great running fuel.  You will find that a good number of very experienced long distance runners will have a couple Guinness along with dry clothes and a change of sox in their finish-line bag.

The Guinness we get in Canada and the United States (Guinness Extra Stout) is bottled by Labatts brewery in London, Ontario under license.  After having just completed a book about local foods (Animal, Vegetable, Miracle), I'd have to agree that a local brew, such as the coffee stout from Philips, would definitely trump one that  is shipped a long way, such as the Guinness, from the perspective of environmental friendliness.   As much as I like a Guinness stout after a run, given that the Philips is a microbrew on tap, the coffee stout should trumps from the freshness and individual character perspectives, as well.

Goodness, I'm getting a mighty powerful thirst... and it's not even lunch time!

bring it on :)

hm, well, our publicly available beer is better... although that crazy "black Mr. Sketch marker" stout from Howe Sound was pretty fantastic after the Squamish Scrambler... i would certainly be up for an "Action's Best Brews vs. Victoria's Offerings" competition! i think you should plan on spending the night on my floor though!! especially if we include this one: Driftwood's Singularity (most disbelieve its label at 11.8%... probably more like 14 or 15%... the kind of uncertainty we at Spaghetti Trees applaud, as evidenced by our trail distance descriptions!)

hopefully your knee is all healed up by then... but what the heck, we can do the beer competition anyway (instead of the run!?)
