Kelowna Runs

If you find yourself in Kelowna in business, carless, as I found myself recently, you can seek solace in some very decent urban runs. Most of you will know about these already, but I didn’t, so here you are for future reference:

My "run" at 4000m: from Laguna Quilotoa to Chugchilán, Ecuadorian Andes in May 2009

So, I've been meaning to post this story for, well, almost 10 months now! Just haven't gotten around to it. Here we go!

[thanks very much to Sybille for helping me figure out how to add pix!]

This was a hike I did with some friends along one of the most incredible trails I have ever seen (and being a traveller who seeks out trails wherever I go, I've seen some pretty amazing trails!). I didn't actually run it, 'cause I was with friends who don't do that kind of crazy thing (!!), but I wished I could have.

My Chase After the Olympic Torch - Why You Need Periodic Testing of Your Fitness

Olympic fever has hit Vancouver and I've definitely caught it. As someone who only a few weeks ago was rather apathetic about the Games I'm on the band wagon now.

I briefly saw the Olympic Torch relay on my drive home this morning. As I had a run planned for this afternoon I thought I'd check the relay route online and see if maybe I could catch more of the festivities.

The Olympic Torch

Yesterday was a big day:  I got to see the Olympic torch relay as it wove its way through my neighborhood, I got to hold the torch and hang-out with the torch-bearer... and I got a workout in on the spin bike at the gym!

2010 Olympics - Share Your Run with a Visitor Challenge

I used to have to travel a lot for work.  Most of the time I'd end up alone in a big city in a big hotel.

Vancouver 2010 - Run With A Local

Hablamos español.  On parle français.  Wir sprechen deutsch.

Are you visiting British Columbia for the 2010 Winter Olympics or Paralympic Games?

BC is a fantastic place for runners.  Runners in BC are friendly and happy to share their favorite runs with like-minded visitors.  Let's go for a run together!

January 2010 Yours Truly 50k with St. Louis Ultrarunner's Group

January 31st afforded some St. Louis Ultrarunner's Group friends an opportunity to gather for the Yours Truly 50k in Greensfelder Park near Eureka, MO. Not all runner's chose to run a full 50k, but everyone turned out a great effort for the day.

Jackson's Planning Template for a Big Race

Blame it on injuries, kids, budget, time or whatever, it's been a while since I participated in a race that really, really meant a lot to me.

I was so jazzed the first time I ran the Boston Marathon, I couldn't sleep for a full week leading up to it.  At the start in Hopkinton, I was so nervous that I pee'd down my leg.  (Yes, in a big crowd of runners as the announcer counted down!  No, I wasn't the only one, either!)

Because sandwiches aren't quite this filling...

There is no one on this planet than I admired more than my Grandpa Eads. My grandpa always told me to set my goals high. Even if I didn't reach them, he argued, I'd get further along than if I had set the bar lower. Well, it stuck and this mentality is evident in my 2010 running plans. A couple of these races are tentative due to travel/logistical challenges I need to work out. Of course it ALL hinges on me staying healthy & injury free.

Best Ultra Marathons in Canada

I was recently approached for a list of the best ultra marathons in Canada.  Ones that are crazy, fun, historic or are otherwise noteworthy.  I thought I pass the question on to you.  What are your favorites?

My personal list (out of races I have either done and volunteered at) is:
