Squamish Scrambler on this Sunday

So the Squamish Scrambler is on for this Sunday.  For those who have done it before the only real difference is that you will have to rent your own snowshoes (NSA $10, or Cove or Deakin).

Hopefully I can arrange for a clear day and some spectaculra views (see Flikr page of previous years) but it will be great to get up on snow shoes none the less.

Any newbies contact me with any questions you may have regarding the event or Sibylle with any club registration questions.

Outdoor Safety, Weather and The Lie Line

Outdoor Safety

Living in the shadow of the mountains, I try to take full advantage of the amazing opportunities the backcountry offers. Trail running is up there at the top of the list.  I also love alpine activities such as snowshoe running, snowboarding, backcountry and downhill skiing.

E/B 2009 news

Hi! everybody, I have been working on the set up for this years "Celebration of Distance Running". I am introducing a new event this year. A "First Timers" Marathon. This will start at the same time as the main events and will be open to 20 newbies. I know it is the day before the Vancouver marathon, but that shouldn't be a problem. It will be 4 laps of the Lake plus the extra bit.(run at the beginning of the first lap). This would be an ideal run for your teenage kids or all those running spouses that would be over here supporting their SO's.

Bridges out on Mount Seymour trails

Thought I'd keep you guys up to date with what's going on with the trails on Seymour (I'm the weekday trail crew). The bridge at Deep Cove Lookout is down - washed away to somewhere (haven't found it yet!). That means a tricky creek crossing to get onto Old Buck/Perimeter, not recommended when there's been rain, and made even trickier at the moment with high snow banks. Also the next bridge down Old Buck is down, probably taken out by the previously mentioned bridge. This has left a wide creek crossing. Again, cross-able with care but not after significant rainfall.

LSCR Gazebo

I am not sure what happened to the LSCR Gazebo but this is what it now looks like.

Found One Yaktrax (size small?)

I found a Yaktrax on mountain Hwy (gravel road) just past the water tower.  It is a well used yaktrax as the strap is missing.  It had a black shoelace in place of the strap.  I assume it is a size small because it just fit onto my size 8.5 men's shoe.  The shoe with the yaktrax didn't slip and I am pretending it  didn't post hole as much??  I had just order a pair from MEC (surprise they are all out in Vancouver and north van) and am looking forward to their arrival as the snow will be here for awhile.

Happy New Year from V.I.

Long time no post! I have been running.

Come to Galbraith!!

Daniel mentioned to me that he was thinking about cancelling his event this year because he hadn't heard that anyone was thinking about coming. What???!!! So I informed him that we were most definitely looking forward to doing the event, and that I even specifically switched my work days so I could come. So, for any of you who have never run this event, I highly reccommend it. So many people showed up to Mike and Melissa's Fun Run which was 27km, and this event is only 5km more...you can do it!!

Year End Slide Show

I would like to pass on a big Thank you to everyone that joined us for the slide show at Kintec Footlabs.  A special thanks to all the presenters as well, there were some great stories told.  We had 25 people in attendance on the rainy evening.
