STORMY Relay anyone?

STORMY is offering a 50-mile relay option this year.   Is anyone intrested in forming a CFA relay team?  Relay teams can have 2-7 runners, so there is lots of flexibility in terms of the distance each person will run.  See www.s2srun.com for details.

Date:  Sat, Aug 11, Squamish
Start time:  6 AM for first runner (with 5 or 5:30 AM check-in) 
Fee:  $45 until July 31, or $50 from Aug 1-9

Many of our CFA super-runners are entered in the 50mile and 100 mile solo events.... so we can cheer them (and eachother) on throughout the course. 

If interested, please respond here. Indicate roughly what distance you'd be interested in and I'll see what I can do to get a CFA team (or two) together.

We've got a 3-person CFA team now...  so Ean, we don't need to invoke your creative double-dipping solution.  (Wendy will thank us for that one).

STORMY Relay

Hey Ean,

You know what would be better than the first relay leg...the last one.  You can finish the 50 mile and I will arrange a shuttle for you back to Powerhouse.  The last leg is 11km and is the only relay stage that is eligible for Sea 2 Sky series points.  

Following is a breakdown of the relay stages:

Leg 1 - 5.65 Miles* Brennan Park Recreation Centre to Perth Drive

Leg 2 - 3.58 Miles* Perth Drive to Alice Lake Operations Centre

Leg 3 - 6.20 Miles* Alice Lake Operations Centre to Edith Lake

Leg 4 - 6.83 Miles* Edith Lake to University

Leg 5 - 6.72 Miles* University to Powerhouse

Leg 6 - 14.14 Miles* Power House to Power House

Leg 7 - 6.97 Miles* Power House to Brennan Park Recreation Centre

Hey Wendy,

Thanks for the thought, but not sure I'm good for more than 80K.  (Not sure I'm even good for 80K, but don't tell anyone.)Undecided

From your perspective as the race director, is it "legal" for someone to double-dip?  What I mean is, do the 50M as a solo and simultaneously participate on a relay team?  (e.g. I run my run as a solo runner, but also have the first leg or 2 count as part of a relay team.)

Pros.  Allowing double dipping is a good way to insure that more relay teams get to field a compete team, which is good for the race as it will encourage more competition.  It also gives the solo runner the opportunity to add some extra value.

Cons. The race is not getting more participants in the relay.  The relay team that is using a solo runner may be considered to be "impure"?

Of course, if the solo runner did the solo and *then* did a relay leg (as in your scenario above), I can't see any way there could possibly be an issue as that person would be putting an equal effort into the solo and relay. 

Thoughts?

The kind of question that makes you want to go, "Hummmm."

I'm already registered for the 50-mile run.  Not sure if it's kosher or not, but I could also run the first leg of a CFA relay team, if needed.
