Lets all do our part....

Hi fellow Fat Assers...

Hope you have all had a few good weeks and are getting out for some fun runs. Man do we ever live in a beautiful city. Just yesterday while I was out for a run I just had to stop and enjoy the wicked view down at the east end of Ioco Inlet in Port Moody. It was high tide, there was a cool raised wooden boardwalk over the water and the shore birds were out on the marshes there. If you haven't been to this area hop into your car someday, park at Rocky Point Park/boat launch and head east around the inlet on the trail closest to the water. It is world class, and less than 30 minutes from downtown Vancouver.

Anyway, I digress (as usual)............

This is a quick note to all to share with you some information on Club Fat Ass. Heck. I have been a member for 3 years now, and I just found this out, so I am pretty sure I'm not the only one who doesn't know this:

Did you know: Club Fat Ass was started right here in Vancouver?? North Van to be exact, by our fearless leaders Ian and Sibylle? YES, it's true!

Did you know that as the founders they have put hundreds if not thousands of hours of their own time into Club Fat Ass and getting it all off the ground and working? YES true again! Do the quick math, I think Sibylle spends more time on this club than she will let on, but even at 20 hours per week, times 50 weeks a year, times 3 years is still 3000 hours! And in reality, I'll bet that figure is low.

Did you know they do this for absolutely not one dime of pay?? In fact knowing these two, I hate to think how much of their own funds have gone into this, let alone the time. Sibylle personally handles all the behind the scenes CFA stuff and has not taken one cent from the memberships to compensate for this. Yes, it is true.

I think these guys deserve HUGE props for this. I know I have had fun at their events and enjoy reading what is new on the website. Without their dedication and commitment none of this would be happening. I'm suprised at the injuries these guys have gotten recently with the huge karma points that must be in their personal banks by now???

So, you are probably thinking again..... why the rambling thoughts today??? Where is this guy going with all this?? Well... I had an idea (if you ask my wife, usually when I start with that nothing good can come of it, but I think this is different). Here is the deal.

I heard at a recent meeting these 2 held that their goal by the end of 2006 is to have 500 Club Fat Ass members. I believe they are at about 200 some odd now. That initially sounded to me like a pretty crazy goal, but when I thought about it more, IT IS ACHEIVABLE. Here is how...

OK, if every CFA member (yes, people like you and me) that is having fun with the club now, simply spreads the good word and talks at least one more person into joining, then the club membership would instantly double to say 400 plus... Between this and the others that are finding out about the fun I think we would be there. Heck, maybe for all of us hosting an event this year, we can all try to get a couple of new sign-ups at every event too, well... that goal of 500 should be met.

The way I think of this is, Ian and Sibylle do enough for us on a day to day basis, lets do this for them..

Anyway, is anybody up for it?? Heck, I know you CFAssers.......you are not too worried about toe'ing up to some start line of a 25-50- or 100 km run!!! This shoudln't be any big deal at all. Yup, this challenge is easier than most of the events you all run!!! Haha...

Challenge is out of the bag, lets do it!! 500 plus members here we come!

Pete SS

Ps Also, next time you bump into one or both of these guys at an event thank them for their dedication to CFA too. They both deserve a huge pat on the back.

Hi Pete, Wow, I am so flattered. Looking at your math it all looks easy. Thanks for being such a great spokesperson for the Club. Now, if you could have a chat with my Achilles tendon! Sibylle
