Gary Robbins - Captain Born and raised in Newfoundland I moved west ten years ago, jumping between mountain towns since. Presently, I am 29 years old residing in Squamish, B.C. and entering just my third race season. Prior to March of 2004 I had only run more than 10km three times in my entire life and somehow I have managed to convince myself that an 800km expedition race was within grasp for 2006!
My love of endurance racing is split between adventure racing and trail running/snowshoe running. My goal is to be a top competitor in every race that I enter, while still having as much fun as possible.
Presently, I volunteer for the Yeti snowshoe clinics, Sunday morning Sun Run training clinics and organize an annual snowshoe event through Club Fat Ass.

Since I can remember I have always been 100% outdoor enthusiast. My family exposed me to skiing and canoeing at an early age and I have grown up with a continuing love for both of these sports. I had always wanted to combine my love for the outdoors with competitive racing but lacked the time and opportunity to do so while attending school. In the fall of 2003 I competed in my first Adventure Race. Although my team did not finish, the race made me realize that I had found the perfect sport to mesh my passion for the outdoors with my love for racing.
After graduating with a degree in Marketing Management I decided to move immediately to Whistler for three reasons; to satisfy my cravings to ski bum "out West", to train for adventure racing and to explore jobs in the field of marketing.
As it goes I have been living in Whistler since January 2004. My trail running, mountain biking and adventure racing life has dramatically changed and improved since I have moved. I have progressed from 10-km races to Ultra-marathons, from day sprint adventure races to 36-hour events. The MOMAR races have been a huge part of my progression. It was the first adventure race series in which I competed in B.C. and has been a continuous staple.

A common theme I have had throughout life is a love of the outdoors and personal challenge. My athletic background has followed a common theme involving both teamwork and the outdoors, starting at a young age with soccer and now presently finding its place within the sport of adventure racing. My experience playing soccer lead me on a successful path; with opportunities to compete on both a provincial and national level while providing a solid framework for the rewards of effective teamwork. I started adventure racing five years ago and have now competed in a variety of trail running, mountain biking, kayaking, orienteering, and adventure/expedition style races. This sport has also provided me with opportunities to race as both an individual and as a team member, requiring a high level of dedication and passion for the dynamic nature of competing in the wilderness terrain. My passion for the outdoors also includes working the North Shore Mountain Bike Association to help maintain the beauty of my backyard in North Vancouver, BC in addition to the Sun Run training clinics to help encourage others to enjoy an active lifestyle.
