Rossland Run - Seven Summits Plus

18 Jul 2009
Location:
Rossland, BC Canada

You are invited to the inaugural Rossland Run on July 18th, 2009. Distance options (approximate) are 55 km and 25 km. The course will be 95% singletrack with lots of climbing - and what goes up must come down. The starting point would be the Seven Summit trail-head (by Nancy Greene lake) and the ending point would be our place - 1817 Planer Crescent. Cold beverages and a bbq will follow the event.

Long Version

Here is the perfect excuse to come see one of the most beautiful small towns in British Columbia. The added benefit is you would run some beautiful trails. The Seven Summit is an EPIC designated Mountain Bike trail and the rest of the course is not too shabby either.

Elevation change - Estimate would be 6,000 feet gain and 7,000 loss for the 55 km option.

Route: Seven Summits - Dewdney - Doukhobor Draw - Tamarack -Whiskey - Railgrade - Green Door - Milky Way - Coffee Run - Full Monte -Techno Grind (part) Monte Christo to Centennial Trail and then a quick block to our house. Short option cuts off the Seven Summits.

Aid and markings: You will be provided with a detailed description and map but the route will not be marked - there already trail markers and signs on these trails. Also, there will be one unsupported aid station (back of my vehicle) around 30 kilometers but this will be it. This course is mountanous and isolated especially the Seven Summits - although you will likely see Mtn Bikers.

This run would be great training and challenging. I did Seven Summits in 4:45 this past weekend - postholing above 2100 meters slowed me down.
