Vancouver Mountain Film Festival - Trail Running

10 Feb 2013 19:00
Location:
North Vancouver, BC

Since 1998, the the Vancouver International Mountain Film Festival Society (VIMFF) has aimed to bring together communities of filmmakers, interesting speakers and outdoor enthusiasts for a celebration of things outdoors.  Over the past 15 years, the VIMFF has mostly looked at the outdoors through the eyes of climbers and skiers.

In 2012, for the first time, the VIMFF dedicated an evening to trail running. Trail Running Night was held at a small Vancouver theater.  It sold out.

This year, organizers of the VIMFF are planning to make Trail Running Night the social highlight of the year for anyone interested in running trails.  They've moved the venue to the 700-seat Centennial Theater in North Vancouver and they've invited trail race organizers, trail-oriented clubs and related organizations to participate with information tables.

Club Fat Ass will have a table at the VIMFF this year.  As well, several members of the Club will be sharing personal big adventures and speaking about what trail running means to them.  The final agenda is still being worked out, but will include:

  • a 45-minute film about some Vancouver runners who attempted to run the Sunshine Coast Trail in the Powell River area a few years ago
  • Eagle Walz, founder of the Sunshine Coast Trail and host of the Marathon Shuffle, with some updates on the trail and why it's still a hidden gem for trail runners
  • Pushpa Chandra will speak about her experiences running at the North Pole and Antarctica
  • Gary Robbins sharing his photos and stories about UTMB (Ultra-Trail du Mont-Blanc) in France
  • Dave Cressman will talk about snowshoe running
  • David Crerar, Ken Legg and Ean Jackson will do a presentation on the North Shore Bagger Challenge

Enzo Federico, the co-founder of the Knee-Knacekering North Shore Trail Run, will emcee the evening.

You can get tickets for Trail Running Night and all of the other festival events on the VIMFF website.

'Hope you can join us for what promises to be a fun and inspirational evening.   (Don't forget to wear your club colors.  We'll try to do a Club photo! )

Sounds like a good time!

Looks like the who's-who of the local trail running scene....

I'll be there with the RD for Lord of the Loops.

Hope to see a few familiar faces in the crowd.
