CFA team in Yeti on Sat?

Hi all, just wondering if anyone put together a CFA team for Saturday's Yeti? Also, I'm wondering if any of you Vancouver-dwellers can advise on the snow situation... is it worth going up Grouse for the Yeti or am I going to be snowshoeing on mud!? :)

Living over here on the island I have no clue what the weather's been like over there. But this week on my balcony it was over 20 degrees most days which is certainly not conducive to snow! I'm coming to Vancity this weekend anyway, just wondering if I should give the Yeti a miss...

But if not, anybody else doing it, and is there a CFA team?

Thanks heaps,

k

Weather on Grouse?

Hey there TeaGirl,

I'd love to join you for the Yeti... their snowshoe races are always a blast and very well-managed.  Personally not burning on all cylinders right now, however (ongoing problems with calf, not hung-over after Canada-Russian game) , so not a good idea for me to play on a team this weekend.

I've not been up to Grouse this winter.  First time in 10 years I've not got a family ski pass.  Lucky call, as skiing/snowboarding has apparently been the pits.  Not sure how the snowshoe trails are.

According to Environment Canada, it's supposed to rain in Vancouver this Saturday. That may be good news for you and it may be bad.  The alpine base of Grouse Mountain is about 1,000 meters and I believe the Yeti race is being held from that point and above.

You might want to check the Grouse Mountain weather forecast as it measures temperatures at the alpine base.  WRT a little blog post I wrote last year referencing the "lie line", you may have to interpret the Grouse weather information.

Tough call for you.  A degree or 2 difference will mean the difference between rain and snow on race day.

PS  I'm good for a run (60-90 min?) on Saturday if you'd like the company of a local!

Snow

Hi Teagirl,

Last report I heard was 20cm of new snow and counting. Follow http://twitter.com/grousemountain for most up-to-date information...
