Seymour Super Fun Run - 2005 - Year 4

The third annual Mike and Melissa's Fun Run was a complete success! A fun, hilly, rocky run through the trails of lower and upper Seymour Mountain.
Jim and I drove up Mount Seymour to drop off the van to act as our un-manned aid station. We were welcomed with a glorious clear, crisp day of about 2C with a little ice on the road and crunchy trails underfoot, promising to be a spectacular day for a run!
Melissa and I welcomed 21 runners into our home (one soon to be Fat Ass) to get signed up, organized for the run, drop off food for the pot luck and most importantly use the facilities! It's great having a run like this it really connects us to our friends that we haven't seen for a while and gives us a great opportunity to visit. What sport can you participate in that you can actually catch up on someone's life while participating?! Not many I'm sure.
The race briefing was 'brief' as everyone brings their own set of printed instructions and course map only if they think they need it. The only real item of note was that we now had a 'manned' aid station as our good friend Peter 'Popular' would make his way up Seymour to hand out hot chocolate, water, pretzels, Santa jube-jubes, brownies, bananas, oranges and baklava to runners who wanted to partake in the goodies! Some runners arrived before Peter was set-up and were content to keep hammering as they didn't want to linger even though Pete would be ready shortly. I think Patrica, Bill and Glenn were there in about 1:20-1:30.
Pete also took a picture of our motley threesome of Jim, myself and Rob as we did a modified route. Heads up for next year: we will probably run the trail that starts where the van was and traverses parallel and downhill to Mt Seymour road. You take a right down perimeter trail to Mt. Seymour road, cross the road head up the road a bit and take a left down Upper Old Buck.
I have to say that personally that was probably one of the best runs in terms of connecting with my friends that I have had in a while. I admit however that I'm not in the best of shape and that running that far (or long) was a challenge for me. Lots of work to do before the big runs this summer! Some people didn't show the strain and came in really fast with times of 2:42 for Patricia and Bill, 2:47 for Glenn (with some question as to a 'short cut' ) and 2:59 for Desmond. To give credit for the ladies that had the most fun and stayed out there the longest was Sibylle, Michelle and Cheryl with a time of 5:10. For full results scroll down (will be posted ASAP)
The after party was absolutely awesome! I get back to the house and there is a casserole from Cheryl in a crock pot plugged into our outlet outside in the carport ... awesome! We enter the house and the smell of Melissa's tortiere fills the nose! She abbreviated her run so that she could prepare the delicious dish for our guests. Everyone contributed something to the pot-luck, Baldwin even provided 2 dishes, one pot of soup and he made in our kitchen 'sweet potatoe pie'! Delicious! Thanks to all who brought something to share, it's a real testimony to the spirit of the Club FA.
Well another successful event has taken place and we had a wonderful time having our friends in our home and sharing the great outdoors and our favorite trails.
