2006 - Year 3

Vince Charbonneau was the Half Marathon Champion and rumor has it he didn't even puke!

Joe Allan was 2nd in the 20 miler in a great time of 2:49.  I think Joe also drank the most booze post run at the Duke of Wellington!

There were others in shorter distance events as well but non OUS folk so they don't need mention :)

The course is a 10.55k loop that goes through Waterloo Park and the University of Waterloo.  It is flat except for two relatively small climbs per loop.

The half is two loops for those that can't do math and the marathon is 4 loops!  The 50k adds a 5th loop that is 3.91k out and 3.91k back.  Course is certified using GPS Garmin technology so you can qualify for Boston in the marathon (you get a marathon split even if your in the 50k.....)

Great post race feed at the Duke of Wellington and great conditions this year (for January anyways).  Only a few icy patches on the trail and near 32F temp with minimal winds.

See y'all on the trails this year!

Run Report (by Ryne)

Jan 1st 2005 brought slightly warmer temps to Southern Ontario. Maybe that meant people drank more the night before as only myself and Tony Martin stood at the start line for the "long run" at 8am. Some more hardy souls surfaced later claiming a hangover got the best of them!

Tony feeling the effects of a well spent New Years Eve returned home after 2km. That left me temporarily alone feeling miserable on the 5k looped course. Later 6 others showed up for shorter distances. The farthest traveled were Max Bardwell and Sarah Langley both from England. Max is here for school and Sarah was just here for a visit and leaving back to Nottingham on the 4th.

Despite the icy areas on the course Max managed to PR for 10k in 38:30. He had previously been unable to break the 40 minute barrier. The others and myself enjoyed the 0 C temperatures and the rolling course through quiet streets in Waterloo. There are no stoplights or interruptions on the course allowing you to get into a rhythm even if hung over.

After a shower and hot tub at the YMCA folks enjoyed some home cooked vegetarian food. For those present a great running start to 2005!
