Seymour Super Fun Run - 2006 - Year 5

Well we were blessed with a break in the weather with temperatures around the freezing mark and partly cloudy skies.

Mike and Melissa's Fun Run 2006 - Nevee in SnowThe snow on the ground was to vary from a few inches at the start to 6-12 inches in the higher elevations depending on whether you were 'on' or 'off trail'.  Here's a picture of Nevee the wonder dog strutting her stuff in the new snow that fell days before.

We had 17 Fat Asses toe the line with a number of members doing 'custom routes' either by choice or by circumstance.  We had one individual end up running down Mt. Seymour and get picked up by a Knee Knacker committee member and got a ride to our house!

One of the things that we love about these runs is that they are not competative and always bring everyone closer together.  Well maybe the fornt runners were competetive but the rest of us had a great time.  The conditions warranted some 'alternative foot gear' to accomodate the snowy conditions. Check out photos here!

Off to the Aid Station a short climb later.  We were greeted by Berglind (who was injured but wanted to help anyway) and her good friend Deborah.  These little angles supplied us with hot chocolate, water, York peppermint patties, Santa Jube-jubes, Christmas coloured M & M's and chips.  What a menu!

The post run is always the highlight of the Melissa and Mike's Fun Run!  Melissa ran a short distance with us so she could be home to prepare the fertada and other goodies that were to be consumed by our running friends.  this year's run added about 40 minutes on average to the finishing times.  Tim wore a GPS and officially pegged the distance at 30km!  Well so much for a 26km trail run!  30 sounds so much better anyway.

Thanks to all the runners who came, and the volunteers that perservered the cold.  We also like to thank North Shore Athletics, Kinesys and TrailRunner for the prizes and Sibylle for obtaining the Body Worlds passes.

Until next year thanks a lot and see you out on the trails...
Melissa and Michael - M & M Fun Run 2006

Thanks to Tim Wiens who measured the course with his GPS.  He writes:

"Hi Mike & Sibylle.  I have attached a map and elevation chart of today’s run in case you are interested.  The GPS distance was 29km.  From the map it looked like the GPS lost lock for about 15 minutes, a half hour from the finish.  So It’s possible that the distance was around 30km.

In case you didn’t get the times, Bill, Chris, Ran and I finished together at 3:25.  Des finished at 3:34.

Thanks for a great event!

Tim
