The Jitney trail is a old CN rail line named for the noisy diesel electric train that carried passengers and freight from 1890 - 1960 along this route. The trail winds along the beautiful Northumberland Shore of Nova Scotia, Canada. It starts out paved for about 4 km's and then turns into gravel for the next 100 or so k's.

The run will go straight in, and then turn around and back out! In typical Club Fat Ass fashion, there will be no course markers, but if you stay on the trail you shouldn't get lost. There will be volunteers at the turn-around at 5km and at 12.5km.

Event Report (by Heidi Felderhof)

The day was a huge success! Although it started out rainy, and incredibly windy, we had quite a few "day of" runners come and sign up. Fortunately for us, the rain stopped, and only the wind and clouds remained!

We had ten 10K runners, ages 16-31, and nine 25K runners, ages 25-61. It's obvious that us 'youngins' can't handle the 25k.

The highlight me (Heidi) was at one point, in the middle of the race, Melissa needed my car keys, and nobody could find them. So I was in the middle of the run, and stopped to walk around to find my keys.. No luck though. Until eventually, Melissa realized she had them in her pocket the whole time. Oh my!

We had some pretty great prizes, such as decorated pylons for the frist place winners in both events. Also, a stuffed turtle for the slow poke of the 10k, which we gave to Jim and Ashley. They cut the turtle in half, so they could each keep a half. We had lots of other fun prizes too, power gels, water bottles, gatorade, etc.

Our post run gathering was cold, but fun! Lots of food such as sandwiches, fruit, timbits.. and the runners favorite.... TIM HORTONS COFFEE..

Overall, we had NO negative comments!! Only good ones !. We were so pleased that everything ran so smoothly!. Everyone enjoyed it so much. I hope that next year another leadership class decides to follow the East Coast legacy and host the second annual East Coast FA Spring Tune Up. I'll be the frist to sign up. :)

2005 marked the first ever East Coast Fat Ass event!!! East Coast Fat Ass member Fred Mackenzie put a Highschool Leadership Class to work and Heidi and Melissa, teenage runners, became the youngest CFA hosts ever. They hosted an awesome event and put some seasoned RD's to shame with their great organization.

Detailed questions and clarifications specific to this event are provided in the FAQ'

Q: I've never done a trail run before. Is this a good place to start?
A: It certainly is! It’s an easy trail terrain, with no possibilities of getting lost!
Q: How long should the run take?
A: For the 25ker’s between 2-3 hours. For the 10ker’s between 30-90 mins. It all depends on your personal ability.
Q: Do I need to print off course instructions and bring them with me?
A: Nope ! The trail is easy to follow!
Q: What if I get lost?
A: There will be volunteers along the way to assist. We are 99.99% sure you will not get lost.
Q: What if I have to heed the call of nature?
A: There will be washrooms at the beginning and at the end. If you’re on the trail, you’ll have to find a bush.
Q: Do I need to bring food and drink to the post run party?
A: If you’d like, but snacks and drinks will be provided.
Q: What else should bring on run day?
A: Please check the agenda for thoughts.
Q: I am supposed to be self-sufficient because there is no aid provided. Can I get a friend to come out and give me food and drink along the route?
A: Absolutely! In fact, it would be nice if your friend were to help everyone. See aid stations and crew for some thoughts on what they might be able to do.
Q: Where can I park? Where can I change?
A: You can park on the waterfront, behind the Decoste Centre. Change areas will be provided
Q: Can I pay cash on the morning of the event?
A: We prefer you pay your Club Fat Ass membership fee (Single Day or Annual) AND register online for the event for several reasons. It's less hassle just before the run. We will have your registration information on hand to send last minute updates if necessary and follow-up after the event. If you don't sign up online, your registration will have to be typed in manually.
