What: A 5K swim in Kits Pool. At 8 complete laps to the kilometer, that makes this challenge 20 return laps, or 40 lengths of the world's best pool.

Why: Because you can.

Who: The Whale Shark, the Mako Shark, the Reef Shark and whoever else wants in.

Entry: There is no fee and you don't need to be a member of Club Fat Ass to participate in a Flash event, however whining is not allowed. No registration is required but please indicate your participation via the comment form below. You are responsible for your own well being and safety and should be self sufficient.

History: There is a long-standing history to this event.  It is rooted in a grudge match.  Some of that history is in the comments below under past taunts.

2009 - the Whale Shark prevails over Reef and Mako, buys a round at Bridges to celebrate then looses voice after crowing non-stop for next month

2008 - the Whale Shark wins by 1/4 lap.  Vancouver shuts down for a whole weekend to celebrate.

2007 - postponed because the pool was closed due to a strike

2006 - the Mako Shark wins!  Whale Shark stops 1/2 way for a snooze

Please read the Release of All Claims. By participating in this event you agree to the terms of the Release of All Claims.

Not a shark eh...

....you're probably right... I'm much more of a goldfish... a goldfish who like the makoshark has also only swum once since January! blub, blub, blub... wonder if I really should be thinking of this two days before trying my hand at a Walk in The Park... if the weather's good, I'll probably be at the pool: a goldfish in neoprene...

Woops may not be able to be there after all -- car checkup appointment in NVan at 11:30am... 'aw shucks'

Hmm now how to look like a

Hmm now how to look like a shark...wear a wetsuit?!

Come as you are

Not that I think you look like a shark...

I actually have a swim cap with a fin on it.  Like me, not very menacing looking.

BTW, I have been swimming once since 1 Jan 2010.  This is not going to be pretty!

Curious

Just walk-in and present myself before 13:00 to participate this event ?

Someone dresses swimsuit which is like a shark ?

It's that simple!

Yup.  Just show up ready for battle.

In an ideal world, you should get a shark name and take the piss out of your potential competition online beforehand, but that's not a requirement.

You can wear anything... or nothing.  Up to you.  That stated, most sharks will agree that it is considered bad form to pad one's wetsuit with bubble wrap.

If you're curious, here's some of the idle banter from years past:

2009, 2008, 2007, 2006

Shark name ?

Can I pick one shark name myself ?  or it will be assigned by CFA ?

And the "Whale Shark", "Mako Shark", and "Reef Shark" are already used ?

Wetsuit already adds a lot positive, padding bubble wrap may just reduce it.  But I would like to see how funny it is if someone pads bubble wrap

Just for fun, right ?

Whales

Is this event open to whales or just sharks?

Any kind of fish or fowl

Now November - Training Begins

OK, so I've been a lard-ass.  After swimming in Kits Pool under blue, sunny skies, I somehow can't seem to get motivated to venture out in the dark, in the pissing rain, and bump my noggin for an hour or 2 on the bulkhead of a 25m pool.

Time to suck it up if I am to deliver a well-deserved spanking to the Whale Shark in 2010!
