Bowen #2 & #3: Apodaca & Collins

After Mt Gardner, the two other Bowen Island peaks are Apodaca (SE) and Collins (NE).

Both have easy ways and hard ways to their summits. On their easy ascents, they make pleasant bike-and-hike adventures.

FINALLY bagged a peak!! Just in time! SLY, Sunday 23 Oct 2011, 13:50:38.

Well, we did it. We bagged a peak in the 2011 Bagger Challenge. It's the shortest peak in the list (except for those Howe Sound Island ones), and rated "eK" (easy and suitable for Kids), but we did it! On the last possible day - unless we wanted to do an after-work in-the-dark bag... given the "nod to safety" in the preamble to this year's Challenge description, probably not the greatest idea??!

Phone call between Bob Wall and Jeff Hunt...

Just got off the phone with Bob Wall. He ran (solo) the trail succesfully yesterday in 14 hrs. He reported that the water and mud was extreme, and the fact that he was running the trail in Fall conditions made things very physical. He left at 4:30 am, and finished by swimming across the fianl river at 6:30 pm.

Bagging Fromme

Detour Bag

Saw little sense in running up Mountain Hwy for the Mountain Highway Madness and not bagging a peak, so I took a little detour at the MHM turn-around, bagged Fromme, then completed my single lap of MHM.

The trailhead at the back (north-east) corner of the quarry is easy to find with a red arrow more than 2' long showing the way. This takes you up the mostly runnable south slope of Fromme.

Glorious grouse

Had a very lovely and very clear day of bagging. Started up bcmc to grouse and onto dam... Took the longer route rather than the one that follows the pipe since the pipe route looked slippery. Went past the helicopter pad to the rocky little summit and hiked it over to little goat which gave us a really great view of goat, crown and the valley between them. Goat was a little more scrambley and challenging but had a correspondingly amazing 360 view on this nice clear day.

Sunshine in September 2011 POSTPONED

Good afternoon, I'm sorry to announce that due to family commitments, I need to postpone Sunshine in September this weekend. I am hoping to find another weekend that we can run this great course before winter comes and will keep you posted.

My apologies for any inconvenience caused. Please don't hesitate to contact me if you have any questions or comments.

Seymour snow

Lovely sunday morning Seymour bag - pretty easy hike up. Bit snowy and slick near the top as well as a short but not too harrowing scramble to the peak. The trail was about 9k total. Ended up falling and landing in the reverse plank position (rather than flat on baby) while discussing what might occur should I fall backwards. Ama didn't even wake up from her nap but it sure gave me a jolt! Thankfully, I am happy with the outcome of what might happen should I fall backward. Somehow rolling, throwing myself forward, etc had occurred to me but the assumed position had not.

Fat asses running for Science

This week-end, several of us went to the Pacific Spirit Regional Park for a 75k ultra organized by the Cardiovascular Physiology and Rehabilitation Lab at UBC. I counted at least 5 CFA members at the start on Saturday. A second run was organized on Sunday with a separate group of runners.
