Top 10 List - The Bizarre World of Mutha's Nature Trail Run 2010

Mutha's Nature 2010

Without fail, I experience something unexpected at every Club Fat Ass event.  Today was no exception.

Here are the top 10 unexpected things I experienced today in the bizarre world that is Mutha's Nature Trail Run

10.  The easiest garbage point of the year.  The trails are not filthy by any means, but I realized how lucky we are to be so close to a spectular and pristine wilderness just a stone's throw from where we were today.  (The toughest garbage point?  Any night run...)

9.   The first little detour alongside the fence on the overgrown trail.  Boxed in.  Curious.  Devilish.  Urban trail running chic.

8.  Running on Hastings.  Hastings!  While there are but three brief stints on the busy road for the 25K course, they served as a brilliant and unique contrast to nearly all of the other events on the CFA calendar.  Mix in a concrete factory, a few grain elevators, cargo ships and trains and you get the idea...

7.  "WATCH OUT FOR THIS ONE IT IS EASY TO MISS!!!"  You were right, that was a tough to find trail, but worth it.  As was that left turn onto Gnome's Home Trail after descending Burnaby Mtn peak -- zoomy and fun!

6.  Ran with Jess for the first 5K.  Tried to convince her to relax and take the rest of the year off but she would have none of it.   #pointseriesgamesmanship

5.  Ran in a back alley in broad daylight and therefore pretended I was chasing a bad guy.

4.  Holy crap the views today were awesome and at every turn.  As I was glued to the course instructions, which made no mention of the views, I was constantly and pleasantly surprised.

3.  Ran up, well sort of scrambled up a trail that was temporarily closed (reason unknown, but the sheer steepness and lack of stairs was suggested by Ryan).  Thanks Ryan for feeding my rebelious side.  8-)

2.  The tunnel to the park near the start/finish line is lined with psychedelic art that greatly tickled a mind under the influence of 4 hrs of trail running.  I had run through that tunnel 7 times previously and never really stopped to appreciate it, until today.

1.  I saw Santa today.  She was wearing leather and fishnet stockings, and rides a Harley.  Three words:  Christmas in October.
