Walk In The Park 54 err 36

This fatass sure had his ass handed to him by Kenna Cartwright Park in Kamloops last Sunday. Walk In The Park?! That's what they call it. 3 laps of a steep 18 km course. Let me tell you for me it was no Walk In The Park. Actually on second thought that's what it turned into. At the 30 km mark I was walking and after the last lengthy downhill I basically walked to the start/finish. Congrats to the other fatasses who did well. It was great to see fimilar faces out there and I guess participating is what it's all about. Next year I plan to avenge this DNF. No excusses here just went out too fast. First lap was 2:16 and the second 2:55 and finished 36 km at 5:11. I was planning on a time between 7:30 and 8 hours. Both legs were on the verge of cramping and after a 10 minute T.O. I didn't feel any better so I called it quits. All in all this was a well run event, RD Chris Larouche and the volunteers did a great job. Here's a link to a Google Earth file of my race. The tilt feature in Google Earth doesn't show how steep this course really is. http://www.mediafire.com/?eygdyo0mxjl

My quads still hurt

and it's now Thursday!  I ran this course about 4 years ago.  I'd swear they've made the hills bigger.  The first lap was cool and comfortable.  The second lap was tough for me... mostly runnign alone.  (Saw a few grouse.  Lots of deer sighting by other runners and one person bumped into a black bear up near the microwave tower!)  The third lap...well, the third lap was pure torture.  I thought that hill would never end.  All that carping and whining and the weather was ideal.  (I think it was last year when the temperatures were in the mid-30s under an unforgiving sun.)

'Sorry we missed you, Monty.  There was a great BBQ afterwards.  BTW, did you know that Chris will retire your number if you complete the race 5 times?  =;-)

It could've been worse....

You could've kept going and then you would've won the lawn chair award. Instead I got it, because the racers behind me HE'd and the aid station personnel conveniently forgot to mention it at the 48km mark.

Actually considering all the swag I got at WITP and BCUTS, the chair was literally the biggest award I received all year. Granted, it took up valuable leg room but I managed in Rachel's backseat.

I had a decent time at WITP, I was 7 minutes faster on my 2nd lap and I just decided to enjoy the last lap. Mentally it was tough because there was no one on the course in front of or behind (as I found out waiting for someone to talk to that never came)

The only fun time I had was seeing the foursome who got sidetracked while doing the 36km race. Good times.

Beware the Chair

Nice shade of lime green, isn't it?  You'll have to make it part of your race kit from now on!
