Snow?

Hey Monty,

Funny, I was speaking to Paul Cubbon today and he mentioned he did more or less the same route yesterday.  Lots of snow still, eh?  Did you get a soaker going across Lynn River, too?

Hanes...more

more on Hanes....I did hike (not run!) the circuit on Mon Jy 30.....glorious day. Took it steady.....there is a fresh, large rock fall on the right of the main rockfield as you go up....it's still sitting on snow and is unsteady. The main route through the boulders has fresh orange poles which makes it easier to route find. No snow left on the main climb but from the top there is still considerable snow, in patches, with a few deep (2m!) and steepish sections...we had pol/axes and these certainly helped, but in running shoes with a bit of nerve and/or as the snow rapidly melts, you'll be fine. From the skyride, we actually ran down Mntn Highway, taking Oil can, one of the other crazy bike jump trails, then along BP for a few km, x-ing Mntn Hway and back to Lynn H'waters.....all in all, about 8 hrs, incl ~1hr of stops for taking in the view, refreshment, etc.
Will look to post some pics.

Untrailrunnerlike

Ean,

Since we were taking our time, in a most untrailrunnerlike manner, we decided to barefoot it across the water.  The water wasn't too cold and was freshing for the legs.  Decided I didn't want to run another 3 hours in waterlogged shoes.  The snow wasn't too bad but I'm happy the 3 others ahead of of us (Tom Skinner and Nicola Gildersleeve from North Shore Athletics and Kevin Holland) made a path for us to follow.

Cool

Love the data from the GPS.  Gotta put one of them on my wishlist.  Would come in handy for other CFA runs...
