2011 January - Foolish Gerbil 80K Trail Run Report

Not as large a crowd as the previous Foolish Gerbil run.  Can't imagine why...the temperature was relatively warm and no ice in sight.
Only two takers for the 80 K challenge.   Congratulations to both.

FAQ - 100 Mile Races

A couple of questions I frequently get asked related to 100 mile races: what's the easiest 100 mile race and what's the hardest 100 mile race?

In answer to the first question: they are all 100 miles; and to the second: the one you didn't train properly for.  These are probably not quite the answers people are looking for.  However, ultrarunner Gary Wang has a website: <http://www.realendurance.com/> which is devoted to ultrarunning.

2011 January - Foolish Gerbil 50K Trail Run Report

It was a perfect day weather-wise for a run, except that it was just cold enough to create a bit of black ice on the pavement leaving the start area.  The two Fools at the front went down almost simultaneously, followed immediately by a number of other people.  The first Fool landed flat on his back, his head hitting the pavement with the sound of "a pumpkin smashing" as someone commented.  Wonder what was meant by that?  The second Fool

2010 March - Foolish Gerbil 54K & 80K Trail Run - Results

Only three Fools at the starting line.  Rachel did a custom run in the afternoon.  Good weather for the Fools, but Rachel experienced drizzle, rain, hail, and drizzle.  The lesson being: start early and get it over with.

Only four Fools were at the 6 AM start.  They were so demotivated at having no one to run with other than themselves that they decided to call it a day after three trips around the 18 K circuit.  Unfortuately, we missed Tim who came out later.  Perhaps we would have continued if we had connected with him.  He's not the kind of guy who can be talked into bailing out of a run to go for a few beer.

There were only two participants in this event.  It's hard to imagine any other event that would keep people from running circles in the rain on such a nice course.

Flash - Foolish Old Buck 75K - Results

No takers on the 75K, although Kirsten might have been pursuaded to do a third loop if there had been anyone man enough to go with her.  Thanks to all who showed up to enjoy the dry and very mild weather.  Apparently there were some ghost runners who prefer to remain annonymous.

December 6 - 14 starters

There were not as many participants as in the six hour version of this run.  I'm don't know if that was because of the ridiculously early start time, the weather or perhaps some of the runners in the previous version have simply concluded that running with Fools is not really an experience that they want to repeat.

It was a treat to have some out-of-town friends join us.
