Stretching for Running - Why, How & When

It's been a while since I wrote as I've been busy putting together lots of great information for you. I'll be sharing all my hard work with you over the coming weeks so keep an eye on your inbox.

Before I get into the first topic I want to say thank you for all the kind words and well wishes for the upcoming birth of our first baby. The due date is June 27!!

To kick things off I've posted an article that explains everything you need to know about stretching for running. This is one topic that is surrounded by controversy but I'll clear it up for you.

Read the article and you'll know exactly what type of stretches you need to do and when.

One Stretch Every Runner Needs to Do

Watch this video for a great hamstring mobilization to do before you go running. It's one dynamic stretch that every runner should be doing.

Run for Water

As runners we know how important water is for our health. But we often take our access to clean water for granted. In many parts of the world people don't have easy access to this vital nutrient.

I recently found out about a race which raises money for a great charity, Hope International. One of the terrific things they do is help people in developing regions get access to clean water by teaching them how to build wells and educating them on proper sanitation.

If you live in the Lower Mainland think about doing the Run for Water on May 30 in Abbotsford, BC. There are 5k, 10k and half-marathon options. Hope to see you there!

Next Core Running Camp

If you want to run better or have been plagued by running injuries in the past you'll want to attend the next Core Running "Run Better" camp on Sunday, June 13 in Vancouver.

Some things you'll learn at the camp:

  • Proper running biomechanics and drills to help you develop good running technique.
  • Exercises to improve your active flexibility and adequate joint mobility to run well.
  • Understand how to put together a comprehensive running schedule to include running, strength training and mobility work balanced with recovery.

Space is limited so register a.s.a.p.
