The Great Walk 2008

So I did it again, Brad Holmes of Namaimo won it in 6:00:00 I was second in 6:18:00, faster than last year for me by 18 minutes. I'm happy with that, but sad that there were so few of us out there... The conditions of the road and the weather were ideal this year. The organizers should get their act together and add the words .....and Ultramarathon" to their name and then maybe more runners would do it. The Great Lake Walk & Ultramarathon did this and their numbers keep on rising. Brad was waering his CFA Black shirt.

This kid will go far

You have got to love this one!

North Coast Trail Run

Jeff Hunt and Rob Wall ran the trail in 11 hours. We now have a first day PR. This note was posted on the PIH Chatline bt Jeff. "We made it. It took a little longer than expected - exactly 11 hours. The beaches were totally non-runnable, and we got lost once. Overall difficulty is definitely harder than the JdF, but slightly easier than the WCT. No injuries. All is good. I will post a full report with tonnes of pictures in the next couple of days."

The 1/2 Monty preview run

Dan and I got back to basics today,3:23:XX for the official 1/2 Monty course. The weather was warm and sunny, both Dan and I were admiring the many views of the Gulf Islands, Finlayson Arm and the Saanich inlet. We were not alone out there today. Mike's group lead today by Torbin, were doing much the same run, so were four women I knew from last years E/B 50K.(L2R's gang.) Next week we hope to run with Randy D. out in East Sooke Park. Nice run everyone, hang loose.

DV50K movie remix

Great run by all the CFA troupe, I remixed the movie so that it plays smoother. Appologies for the heavy breathing and "body" noises.. Hahahahaha!

JDFT take two.(solo?)

Short notice I know but one of my buddies is planning to do "IT" (Juan De Fuca Marine Trail) again this Saturday.  He has a plan but we are all tied up with the DV this W/E.

If anyone wants to go this Saturday, this is Randy Duncan's original link. http://pih.bc.ca/chat/ReadMessage.php?nMessageID=117656

Pre-race training?

Easter W/E, and I'm still kind of injured! The Diez Vistas 50K is three weeks away and I am sticking to my ten hours a week training. Hoping for an improvement in the wet weather, and feeling more willing to do doubles, will make those ten less painful to get! I need new trail shoes... Almost eight hours on the clock so far, with 90 minutes on Tuesday 90 minutes on Thursday, 195 yesterday,60 with Graeme and 24 with Ms. J today... Tomorrow will be an easy 90 giving me about ten hours. Roll on the good weather and some quality doubles.

JDFT 2008 Flash report

So, we made it through! Huge thanks to Brad Holmes.(CFA member) Seven of us started six of us did the whole thing,he did an out and back from BOTH ends plus all the driving! Jeff,Bob,Ludo,Carolyn,Stas,Brad and I, set off as planned at 7:30 from China Beach. Not knowing what to expect, we were happy to see most of the classic trail, plus some creative blowdown bypassing, plus a huge amount of bonus mud! The weather couldn't have been better, and hats off to Jeff for making the tidal calculations, so vital on this trail.
