Hollyburn Hurtle

Three eager runners drove up Cypress this morning to tackle the Hollyburn Hurtle.

2007/07/19 My Juan De Fuca Marine Adventure

Beach ZenAfter wrapping up the Cleveland Dam aid station at the Kneeknacker, welcoming an exuberant husband at his 15th KK finish and packing the car for a 5 day camping trip, said husband and offspring were off to a secret location on the west coast of Vancouver Island.

Training Plans

Unlike last year, when a nasty bout of bronchitis reduced most of my runs to pitiful shuffles of questionable distance, my training this year is going very well.  So well, that I have been sniffling around for training goals....

A Rain Forest Run

Running west on the BP from Cleveland Dam is not my favorite trail...talk about a nasty hill.  However, last Saturday, Pat and I ventured up past the British Properties and followed the Brother's Creek Fire Road.  I hiked there before, but had forgotten how magical the area is.  Crossover Trail and Brother's Creek Trail are out of this world.  Here is a short video of our run.  Enjoy!

Trans Canada Trail Challenge

For those of you who are not going to tackle the new Club Fat Ass event "Beyond Nine Mile" in Squamish by veteran Event Host Wendy Montgomery on the 23rd of June, here is an interesting alternative:

Trails BC, Southwest Region is pleased to announce its Greater Vancouver North Shore Trans Canada Trail Challenge 2007 on June 24th.  This event follows six successful editions staged from 2003 to 2006.  So far, more than 2000 people have participated.

Bad Boys, Bad Boys!

My Sorry Half Ass

After last years epic 50km on New Years Day I had my heart set on a repeat, but alas it wasn't meant to be.  Despite an increase in our training runs, Michele, Pat and I just couldn't get our mileage up enough to realistically attempt 50km.  When the snow in late November and the storms of early December put a damper on some of our runs we finally declared defeat and aimed for the 25km distance.

Beyond The Horizon - Expedition Canada

For the last two years I have been following the adventures of Colin Angus, Tim Harvey and Julie Wafaei who set out to circumnavigate the earth using human power.  Last night, I attended their presentations at the Denman Theatre downtown.  If you don't have any plans for tonight yet, I highly recommend you attend their last engagement in Vancouver (then they are crossing Canada to present in different cities).

Inspiration

I haven't written in a while and don't have much to report without going into whining about a nasty bout of bronchitis turned asthma that put a damper on my running since February.  But before you feel pity for me, I thought I share a story with you that circulated on the Ontario Ultra Group today.  Make sure you watch the video (link at the end of the story)

Progress Report - May

Despite worsened asthma symptoms and a long recovery from a cold virus, I have been positive about training and running this month.  Given that I lost all the endurance I had built up earlier in the year, I focused on getting back on track and running shorter distances.
