Wendy Montgomery Fundraiser Works a Miracle!

It looked like Canada's top woman 100K runner and member of Canada's National 100K run team, Wendy Montgomery, wouldn't be able to afford to compete in the World 100K championships this year. Thanks to the support of her friends during a blitz fund raising campaign, however, that's changed.

Rich Rawling announced today that $2,300 had been raised though online donations, a 50/50 draw and a Pub Night that attracted over 50 people.

The 100K World Championships are held at different locations around the world each year. The 2005 competition will be held this June 26 in Lake Saroma, Japan. Given that Wendy now has sufficient funds to cover all of her travel expenses to the race, she has offered to contribute any additional funds to help offset the travel costs of her fellow team members. For the next couple of weeks, you can still chip in online at: www.webbserv.net/%7Eswimclub/wendy/wendy.html

If you are a friend of Wendy's or a friend of the Canadian 100K run team, you can see some photos of the Pub Night and post your best wishes and comments at: www.clubfatass.com/WendyJapan

In addition to everyone who made a personal contribution online or who attended the Pub Night, Wendy wanted to thank the following people and businesses for their support : Blurr Design, Mosquito Creek Grill, Iron Lung Events, Grouse Mountain, Club Fat Ass, the Squamish Titans and Capilano Eagles running clubs. For websites and organizing fund raising activities: Rich Rawling, Helle Willburn, Ean Jackson, Roger Shirt and Andy Nicol.

PS Congrats to Martha Grant, who won $90 in the 50/50 draw and everyone who won a draw prize at the Pub Night! Nice photos from your cell phone, Glen Pace.

Wendy does 100K

Hi Wendy,

Congratulations and good luck on your upcoming 100K in Japan! You're amazing (and probably crazy too). I've got to admit that I have a few laughs at your expense, when I think of when you first started coming out to run with the Cap Eagles - you never thought your running career would come to this, did you????!!!
